Talent spotter who discovered Osimhen weighs in on Galatasaray transfer after failed moves to Chelsea, PSG
Published: November 02, 2024Paul Erikewe, the Director of Olusosun United football Academy, has revealed that Victor Osimhen has spoken about the lanky striker's decision to join Galatasaray after he failed to secure a move to either Paris Saint-Germain or Chelsea last summer.
The 25-year-old was linked with the Premier League side giants and the Parisians, but his huge valuation frustrated the duo's effort.
Galatasaray would be the beneficiary as they made a loan offer to sign the reigning African Men's Player of the Year, and Napoli had no choice but to accept the same.
Since making his debut for the Turkish giants, Osimhen has shown why he was highly coveted by Chelsea and PSG, scoring four goals and providing four assists in seven games.
Speaking to Akşam via haber sari kirmizi, Erikewe stated that it was wise of the Nigerian striker to join Galatasaray after Chelsea and PSG's failed attempt to sign him.
“Victor was working with his agent on the transfer process from Napoli. I think it was a smart decision for him to move to Galatasaray after his transfers to PSG and Chelsea failed. He wants to prove himself here," he stated.
"The welcome that the Galatasaray fans gave Victor when he arrived at the club was very different and motivating. He started to show himself in every match he played, by scoring or making an assist."
Erikewe discovered Osimhen for Olusosun United football Academy, and the lanky striker rose from there to prominence, starting with his triumph with the Golden Eaglets at the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup.
He then joined VfL Wolfsburg, where he made his professional debut, and he then joined Lille before making a move to Napoli for a fee that made him the highest ever-acquisition by the Italian side.
After helping Napoli win the Scudetto, he was crowned the African Men's Footballer of the Year and finished 8th in the Ballon d'Or, the highest-ever ranking by a Nigerian since the inception of the award.
