Every word Ola Aina said on thunderbolt, Nottingham Forest main man Chris Wood, Hudson-Odoi, red card
Published: November 03, 2024Nigeria international Ola Aina was on media duties shortly after his fantastic strike helped Nottingham Forest secure an impressive 3-0 win against West Ham at the City Ground on Saturday evening.
Chris Wood continued his rich vein of form by opening the scoring with a header from close range after he was beautifully picked out by Álex Moreno in the 27th minute.
Callum Hudson-Odoi, with his second goal of the season, curled the ball into the net in the 65th minute.
It was game over at minute 78 when Ola Aina bulldozed his way through before firing as shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area to seal the win.
The Hammers had two or three chances to get the ball from Aina but didn't do so and were made to pay for their defensive frailties as the Nigeria international thundered the ball into the back of the net.
"Sometimes it comes out. I like to surprise everyone, just bounced up right and then I was knackered anyway so I just thought I might as well hit it," Aina told Optus Sport, adding that he expected the shot to nestle in the top corner.
Nottingham Forest are up to third in the Premier League table which is impressive as they are above the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
Reacting to Forest's league position, Aina commented: "We are taking every game as it comes and we're just working hard. That's the formula, just work hard and take every game as it comes."
It's as if Nottingham Forest players know where Chris Wood is going to be in the box and he has delivered with eight goals in ten Premier League games.
“He's on top form and he's just got the knack for it, in front of goal everything he touches is going in, so we just have to keep finding him and hopefully he can keep scoring, " Aina said.
Aina emphasized that whether Callum Hudson-Odoi meant to shoot or cross for the Reds' second goal wasn’t important.
"I think so but he won't care. He's another one, when he gets into positions, the team trusts him to do what he does and we've seen on a number of occasions when he's on that angle he can produce and that's what he's done today.”
Playing with ten men following the sending off of Hammers midfielder Edson Álvarez, Forest managed the game perfectly.
"Obviously they've gone down to ten men and when things like that happen, sometimes you can start taking the liberties, but we stuck to what were doing and the game plan, and got the two extra goals.
"We closed the game out in good perfection, " Aina concluded.
