Fenerbahce vice president reveals the truth about those Osimhen transfer rumours
Published: November 13, 2024Fenerbahçe Vice President Acun Ilıcalı has dismissed rumours linking the club with a move for Galatasaray marquee signing Victor Osimhen.
The Super Eagles striker has adapted to the Süper Lig like a duck to water, and his performances have blown the minds of fans and pundits away.
The 25-year-old took his goal tally to six in six league games with a brace against Samsunspor last Sunday, which implies that he is averaging a goal per game.
He has been linked with a permanent move to Galatasaray, but that is unlikely to materialize, and Fenerbahçe have also been credited with an interest in his services recently.
The Yellow Canaries have Edin Dzeko and Youssef En-Nesyri as strikers but were reportedly still interested in signing Osimhen as they sought to end the dominance of Galatasaray.
Dzeko has one more league goal than the Nigerian striker but En-Nesyri has struggled to impress since joining the club in the summer.
Speaking on reports linking them with Osimhen, Ilıcalı distanced the club from the reports crediting them with an interest in the lanky forward.
In quotes relayed by İzmir-based Turkish newspaper Haber ekspres, he said: "Fenerbahçe has nothing to do with the Osimhen transfer. The news is completely unfounded."
Despite his blistering start to life with Galatasaray, Osimhen is still said to be eyeing a move to the Premier League after he failed to complete a transfer to Chelsea last summer.
Chelsea are still very interested in his signature, according to reports, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to reach an agreement with Napoli next summer for his acquisition.
