CAF Awards: Nnadozie retains Goalkeeper of the Year, Super Falcons National Team of the Year
Published: December 16, 2024Chiamaka Nnadozie and the Super Falcons were winners at the 2024 CAF Awards, which was held on Monday night at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco.
Nnadozie was crowned as the Women's Goalkeeper of the Year following her performances for the Super Falcons and her club side Paris FC.
The Nigerian shot-stopper was the recipient of the award last year, which was the first time that it was given.
Surprisingly she was omitted from the FIFPro Women's Team of the Year. Michelle Alozie, Osinachi Ohale, Rasheedat Ajibade and Asisat Oshoala were all included.
The Nigerian goalkeeper also missed out on the Women's Player of the Year award which was won by Barbra Banda.
The Super Falcons were the recipients of the Women's Team of the Year award, beating Morocco and South Africa to win the award for the second consecutive year.
Nigeria had won it five times previously and have won the award more times than any other nation.
Flamingos forward Chiamaka Okwuchukwu lost to Morocco's Doha El Madani in the Women's Young Player of the Year category.
Asisat Oshoala remains the only Nigerian player to have won the award since its inception.
TP Mazembe beat Edo Queens to the Women's Club of the Year. The DR Congo-based side are the current holders of the CAF Women's Champions League.
They were responsible for the exit of Edo Queens in the competition, having beaten them 3-1 in the semi-final.
