Ten-time French Ligue 1 champions considering making a move for Rangers striker Dessers
Published: December 17, 2024
According to Le Republicain Sportif via The Scottish Sun, ten-time French Ligue 1 champions Saint-Etienne are considering making a move for Cyriel Dessers ahead of the January transfer window.
The report claims that Rangers are willing to accept a fee close to £3.5million for the veteran striker who has failed to impress since he arrived at the club.
Saint-Etienne just gained promotion back to the Ligue 1 but risk getting relegated as they occupy one of the relegation play-off spots at the moment.
The French outfit have sacked former manager Olivier Dall'Oglio as a result and will need quality reinforcements to save their top-flight status, which informs the interest in Dessers.
The Nigerian striker is out of favour at Rangers and has not started any of the last six games with Philippe Clement preferring Hamza Igamane over him.
He has been subjected to a lot of criticism by the Scottish press with the latest being his non-involvement in the penalty shootout in the Scottish League Cup final with Celtic on Sunday.
Though Clement has revealed the reason behind Dessers not taking a penalty in the clash, but it goes without saying that he is not considered good enough to lead Rangers attack.
He was linked with an exit from the Light Blues in the summer, and it would not be surprising to see him leave the club next month after losing his place in the starting line-up.
