Speaking after featuring in Chelsea's 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Europa Conference League yesterday, Tyrique George has spoken about Enzo Maresca's confidence in him and his experience of training with the first team.
The talented Nigerian forward was officially welcomed into the first team on Wednesday alongside Josh Acheampong who just signed a new contract.
The duo were handed a start in yesterday's fixture with George completing his second consecutive game in the Conference League after getting his first start against FC Astana in the last match.
George was part of the US pre-season, and having impressed Maresca, he has been given the chance to impress and has grabbed the opportunity.
In his post-match interview after yesterday's win over Shamrock Rovers, the Nigerian forward spoke about the trust Maresca has in him.
"It is just the trust Enzo has for me. I can't explain, but it is just a great feeling to get 90 minutes," he told Chelsea's official YouTube channel.
George revealed what the Italian tactician told him before the game against Shamrock Rovers.
"Just play with confidence because he knows my ability, so in training, he sees it. So, it is just to keep playing with confidence and ability and just show what I can do."
The 18-year-old also discussed his experience with training with the first team and the difference between his involvement with them and the U21s.
"Just grateful, really. It is a blessing to obviously be around great players. It is really good.
"Top players, you see it in training. It is a quality every single player has. So, it is really good."
"The temp is so quick, compared to the 21s, really fast, demanding as well. So, I have to work hard."
George is yet to register a goal involvement for Chelsea, after making eight appearances, six in the Conference League and one each in the Carabao Cup and Conference League qualifiers.
He is closing on making his first appearance in the Premier League after he was named among the substitutes in the Blues’ 2-1 triumph over Brentford.
