'Nobody's perfect' - Ndidi breaks silence after missing gilt-edged chance against Zimbabwe

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has addressed the backlash from fans following his missed opportunity during Nigeria's 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

The 28-year-old Leicester City star, who was instrumental in the heart of Nigeria's midfield, found himself in the eye of the storm after squandering a chance to double Nigeria's lead, which eventually contributed to their disappointing draw.

After a brilliant individual effort from Victor Osimhen put Nigeria ahead in the 74th minute, Ndidi was presented with a golden opportunity to seal the game.

However, his failure to convert from close range proved costly as Zimbabwe struck back in the 90th minute through Tawada Chidera to secure an unlikely draw.

Frustrated by the result, Nigerian fans took to the social media to voice their displeasure with Ndidi, calling out the midfielder's performance and particularly his missed chance. The message, laden with anger.

Despite the harsh criticism, Ndidi responded with remarkable humility, showing accountability for his mistake.

In a message shared via his Instagram stories, he acknowledged the missed opportunity and appealed for understanding, writing: “Please make una no vex for goal wey I miss. Nobody perfect for him job.”

His response demonstrated a level of maturity and self-awareness, acknowledging that mistakes are part of the game.

The exchange between Ndidi and the fan sparked a wave of reactions among Nigerians.

While some fans appreciated his open acknowledgment of the miss, others were still disappointed by the result, which left the Super Eagles' qualification campaign hanging in the balance.

Nigeria, who were expected to comfortably secure three points at home, now face a tougher challenge in the qualification race.

Nigeria's next steps in the World Cup qualifiers will be crucial, and Ndidi, along with his teammates, will be determined to put the Zimbabwe disappointment behind them.

As for the 28-year-old, his calm and humble approach to the criticism shows that he is focused on moving forward and helping Nigeria achieve their goals on the international stage.

The Super Eagles will return to action in friendly matches this June before their World Cup qualification campaign resumes in September.

Ndidi and his teammates will be eager to redeem themselves and make amends for their recent struggles.
