The reason Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface skipped Bayer Leverkusen training on Tuesday
Published: April 08, 2025
Victor Boniface was absent from Bayer Leverkusen training session on Tuesday, four days before the defending champions take on Union Berlin in the German Bundesliga.
The Bild cameras were at Bayer Leverkusen's training ground on Tuesday, but Boniface was nowhere to be seen during the session, sparking rumors that something may be wrong with the Nigeria international.
The German newspaper has now clarified that Boniface was absent from the training session due to illness.
However, there is no cause for alarm as the report from Bild has suggested that Boniface should be fully fit by Saturday and is in contention to be named in Bayer Leverkusen's matchday squad to face Union Berlin.
One of the first names on manager Xabi Alonso's team sheet in the first three months of the 2024-2025 season, the Super Eagles forward lost his spot in the starting lineup after recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained while on international duty back in November.
Having started the last two Bundesliga games, Boniface appears to be back in Xabi Alonso's plans after a failed move to Saudi Arabian team Al Nassr in the January transfer window.
Despite his limited playing opportunities since the start of 2025, the Nigerian has registered four goal involvements (3 goals, 1 assist) in ten all-competition appearances.
Bayer Leverkusen's 1-0 win over Heidenheim last weekend saw them close the gap on table toppers Bayern Munich to six points with six games remaining.
