PL2: Manchester United striker Obi scores brace in six-goal thriller against Nottingham Forest
Published: April 08, 2025
Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent Chido Obi netted a brace in a Premier League 2 clash between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest at Leigh Sports Village on Monday night, but the Red Devils were forced to settle for a draw after conceding twice in the final ten minutes.
Obi led United's attack and he was joined in the starting lineup by another player of Nigerian descent Habeeb Ogunneye, who slotted in at right back.
Bendito Mantato's third minute opener was cancelled out by Zyan Blake in the 26th minute.
Manchester United were ahead at the break courtesy of Obi's well-taken finish from close range.
The Danish-Nigerian center forward fired into the bottom corner to give United a 3-1 lead three minutes into the second half.
However, late goals from Kyle McAdam and Adam Berry completed a second-half comeback for Nottingham Forest.
Obi, 17, has impressed since his move from Arsenal last summer and his brace versus Nottingham Forest took his tally for the season to seventeen in all competitions.
He has appeared in four matches for United's first team since the start of 2025, including debuts in the FA Cup and Premier League.
The former Arsenal schoolboy has not featured for the Red Devils first team since returning to Manchester after international duty with Denmark U21s, although he was an unused substitute in their most recent game against Manchester City.
Obi is not eligible for selection on Thursday night when United face French opponents Lyon in a Europa League quarterfinal clash as he not been registered for the competition.
