'Still assessing' - Nottingham Forest boss to make late decision on Awoniyi's availability for Everton clash
Published: April 10, 2025
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that the availability of attacking trio Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga and Taiwo Awoniyi remains uncertain ahead of his side's Premier League meeting with Everton at the City Ground.
The Nigeria international is battling to overcome a hamstring-related injury, an ailment that kept him out of the matchday squad last weekend.
Forest were forced to play without a recognized center forward in the loss to Aston Villa, with Chris Wood and his backup Awoniyi unavailable for selection due to injuries.
Chris Wood has played a pivotal role up front this season, with Awoniyi providing cover and Anthony Elanga adding pace and creativity from the wings.
Their potential absence could significantly impact Nottingham Forest's attacking threat.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Nuno Espirito Santo revealed that all three forwards are currently under assessment due to various injury concerns.
"We are still assessing all of them. They are struggling with problems, some small, some not so small but we have to assess them one more day, and then we see if they can be available for the game," the Portuguese manager explained.
The Forest boss indicated that a late decision will be made regarding the availability of Awoniyi Wood, and Elanga.
"It depends on how they recover and how they feel," he added.
Aowniyi has struggled for game time this campaign due to Wood's impressive form, with the Super Eagles striker making just three starts in the Premier League before his spell on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, influential right back Ola Aina is not in contention to return to the squad as he's still recovering from a calf injury.
