20yo Southampton forward targeted by Eric Chelle suffers injury ahead of Unity Cup
Published: April 11, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Southampton forward Victor Udoh has suffered a serious injury, casting doubt on his participation in next month's Unity Cup.
The 20-year-old is on a longlist of players being monitored by Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle ahead of the tournament at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium in West London.
Udoh suffered an ankle injury during Southampton's 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League 2 last Friday, leading to his substitution in the 61st minute.
His screams echoed through the nearly empty St. Mary's Stadium as he collapsed to the ground.
In recent days, the former Golden Eaglets forward has been spotted wearing a leg brace and it remains to be seen whether he will return to action before the end of the season.
Udoh's hopes of a Premier League debut this season have taken a major hit due to his injury, especially now that the Saints have been relegated following their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
He has been actively involved with Southampton's development squad since his arrival in England from Royal Antwerp in the winter transfer market.
The attacker was invited to train with Southampton's first team during last month's international break due to his impressive performances for the development squad.
Notably, he scored a brace on his Premier League 2 home debut in a 3-3 draw against Sunderland in February.
Southampton loanee Sam Edozie, a member of England's squad to the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup, is also on the radar of Eric Chelle.
