'When he dribbles, he's a spectacle' - Lookman praised despite 7-game goal drought for club and country
Published: April 21, 2025
Ademola Lookman received high praise from Gazzetta dello Sport for his performance in Atalanta’s match against AC Milan.
The Nigerian forward was given a rating of 7, despite not having scored since March 9. His overall impact on the game, however, did not go unnoticed.
Gazzetta, via SOS FANTA explained the rating by writing: "He hasn't scored since March 9 and his goals are needed, but he was decisive in the action that led to the opener and also provided an assist that Retegui wasted. When he dribbles, he's a spectacle."
Lookman impressed with his movement down the flank, his flair in one-on-one situations, and his tactical intelligence during offensive transitions.
He played a key role in the build-up to Atalanta’s opening goal and set up Mateo Retegui with a golden chance to double the lead, which the striker failed to convert.
Although the goals have dried up recently, having fired blanks in seven consecutive matches combined for club and country, the former Fulham and RB Leipzig man remains an essential part of Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.
His dribbling continues to be one of Atalanta’s most dangerous weapons, consistently breaking down opposition defenses and creating space for teammates.
The rating of 7 reflects Lookman’s influence on the match beyond just goals and assists.
It’s a sign of recognition for a player who may not be scoring, but whose quality and creativity remain vital to Atalanta’s attacking play.
