Noah Atubolu: Freiburg's dual-national goalkeeper on Eric Chelle's radar linked with Galatasaray
Published: June 09, 2025
Galatasaray are reportedly weighing a move for SC Freiburg's rising goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, as the Turkish giants begin their search for a long-term replacement for veteran Fernando Muslera, who departs the club after 14 seasons.
Atubolu enjoyed a breakout season in the Bundesliga, registering 10 clean sheets in 26 appearances and helping Freiburg secure a UEFA Europa League spot.
Born in Germany but eligible to represent Nigeria through his heritage, the dual-national has attracted attention both at club and international level.
According to Turkish outlet habersarikirmizi, the reigning Süper Lig champions are considering Atubolu among a shortlist of five potential replacements for Muslera.
The list reportedly includes Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, Trabzonspor’s Uğurcan Çakır, OGC Nice's Marcin Bulka, and PAOK’s Dominik Kotarski.
While Atubolu may not be the front-runner in Galatasaray’s list, his development potential, and top-flight experience make him a compelling option for the Istanbul side looking to build for the future.
At the international level, Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle is closely monitoring Atubolu, hoping to persuade the young shot-stopper to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.
Although Atubolu has represented Germany across multiple youth levels, he has yet to receive a senior call-up, leaving the door open for a potential switch.
With the summer transfer window heating up, the goalkeeper's priority will be to maintain regular first-team football—a crucial factor as he aims to build on his strong Bundesliga campaign and shape his international future.
