Published: October 22, 2025
The Confederation of African Football has announced the nominees in the Men's categories for the CAF Awards 2025, highlighting Nigeria’s continued presence among the continent’s elite football talents.
Victor Osimhen, Daniel Bameyi and Stanley Nwabali have all earned nominations, following their exceptional performances at both club and international levels.
Victor Osimhen is in contention for the 2025 CAF Men's Player of the Year award.
The Nigerian striker enjoyed a remarkable season with Galatasaray, scoring 26 goals in the Turkish Süper Lig to claim the Golden Boot and help his team secure the league title.
Across all competitions, Osimhen amassed 37 goals and eight assists, contributing to a domestic double as Galatasaray also lifted the Turkish Cup.
He will compete against Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund), Fiston Mayele (Pyramids FC), Denis Bouanga (Los Angeles FC), Frank Anguissa (Napoli) and Oussama Lamloui (Étoile du Sahel), Pape Matar Sarr (Tottenham Hotspur) and Iliman Ndiaye (Everton).
In the Men’s Young Player of the Year category, 19-year-old Daniel Bameyi has been shortlisted among ten nominees.
Bameyi’s leadership and defensive solidity were key as Nigeria reached the round of 16 of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
He will face competition from Asharaf Tapsoba, Alynho Haidara, Othmane Maamma, Noah Sadiki, Abdellah Quazane, Houssam Essadak, Momoh Kamara, Mbekezile Mbokazi and Tylon Smith.
Stanley Nwabali, 29, represents Nigeria in the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year category.
Having progressed from domestic clubs to South Africa’s Chippa United, Nwabali impressed at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, keeping four clean sheets in seven matches as Nigeria won the silver medal.
His rivals include Andre Onana, Vozinha, Ahmed El Shenawy, Munir Mohamedi, Yassine Bounou, Édouard Mendy, Marc Diouf, Ronwen Williams and Aymen Dahmen.
The CAF Awards 2025 ceremony, scheduled for December, will celebrate Africa’s top football achievements and provide Nigerian players with a platform for continental recognition.
