Sports Minister Quashes SAINTFIET's Appointment
Published: June 13, 2012
This is an order from Nigeria's Sports Minister. Bolaji Abdullahi has ordered that the appointment of Belgian Tom Saintfiet as the Technical Director of the National Teams be revoked.
The Sports Minister has ordered that an indigenous coach should b given the job. It would be recalled that the Nigeria Federation had earlier announced that Saintfiet had an agreement in principle to be the Technical Director of the National Teams.
In an interview with MTNFootball.com, the 39-year-old former Namibia Coach says he is disappointed with the way things are turning out.
He said: ''I got the information through the media (that the country’s sports minister wants his contract cancelled, ed) but nobody contacted me, I didn't get any information, I'm shocked and I'm surprised because I've got an agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation. Politics is involved, I mean political interference.''
Saintfiet was expected to trouser the sum of 20,000 dollars monthly as wages if the Minister had not quashed his appointment.
