Valencia Flop SUNNY STEPHEN Begs For National Team Invitation
Published: July 03, 2012
Sunny Stephen, who failed to make the grade at Valencia, is targeting a place in Stephen Keshi's new look Super Eagles.
''As a dream to play for Nigeria again, as it’s every player’s delight to wear the national colours. I’m keen that my invitation will come following the new trend in the national team as one’s form speaks for himself,'' Stephen was quoted as saying by the online edition of The Nation.
The midfielder has an interesting career. Eight years ago, Sunny Stephen was taken by an unscrupulous agent to Europe, but abandoned when they got to France.
Stephen found his way to Spain and distinguished himself playing for Nigerian immigrants against Rayo Vallecano which attracted scouts of Poli Ejido, who promptly offered him a deal.
He will later feature for the Spain Youth Team at Canada 2007 Fifa Under 20 World Cup. In that squad were 'relatively unknown' youngsters like Chelsea's Juan Mata and Barcelona's Gerard Pique. Those two players have blossomed to be world class players while Stephen is playing in front of 2,500 spectators at second-tier Numancia!
