Official: Honved Budapest Sign Top Prospect HENRY ODIA
Published: October 05, 2012
Former Golden Eaglets midfielder Henry 'Korofo' Odia has a chance to relaunch his once budding career after he recently signed a three-year contract with top Hungarian side Honved Budapest in a move the young ball juggler describes as a dream come true.
Odia was a prominent member of the Golden Eaglets squad during the African qualifiers for the 2005 U17 World Cup but was controversially dropped from the final squad to the tournament despite being the fans favourite.
He would later earn a recall to Nigeria's cadet team again in 2007 and soon after Argentine agent licensed by the Nigerian Football Federation Marcelo Houseman took him to Argentina and from there he has finally earned his move to Europe with Hungary's most decorated club Honved.
Honved have won the Hungarian league 13 times and the Hungarian Cup 7 times but the last time they tasted silverware was in the Hungarian Cup in 2009. With the recent acquisition of Korofo who has been allocated jersey Number 35 for the season, they look forward to a more fruitful season.
Henry Odia had reportedly been linked with some of Europe's heavyweights including Barcelona and Chelsea in the past.
Nigerian players, Marshal Johnson and Ikenne - King Patrick George, also play for Honved. The International Transfer Certificate of the later has been sent by the Nigerian Federation to the Hungarian club.
