Yobo Delighted To Qualify For Europa League Quarter-Finals
Published: March 15, 2013Nigeria skipper Joseph Yobo is delighted that Fenerbahce advanced to the quarter - finals of the Europa League for the first time in their history.
The Yellow Canaries drew the round of 16 tie played at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium 1-1 but progressed 2-1 on aggregate.
''It is important as players and this club to qualify for the quarter-finals, and people that love football in Turkey as well. It is the quarter - finals, we are excited.
''We knew it was going to be difficult because if they scored first, it would be a different game.It was a tense game for both teams.
''In the first half, nobody wanted to make mistakes. But we are happy to score first. I thought we controlled most of the game. But we expected them to fight back, which I though they did in the second half.
''We must give them credit, they are a good team. Their statistics and record speak for itself. So, we are very happy that we qualified. But also we missed our fans today, it is difficult to play without fans. We are happy that we qualified,'' Yobo told Sporx TV.
Joseph Yobo, who was not invited for the World Cup qualifier against Kenya, has made 6 appearances in the Europa League.
