German club SC Paderborn have agreed a deal to sign promising German-Nigerian striker Kennedy Okpala ahead of the January transfer window, according to respected German pundit Florian Plettenberg.
Okpala, who plays for Waldhof Mannheim, has been one of the standout performers in the German 3. Liga this season, drawing attention with his pace, trickery, versatility, and clinical finishing.
The attacker has contributed seven goals and three assists in 17 league appearances, an impressive output that convinced Paderborn to make an early move for his signature.
With the youngster’s contract at Waldhof Mannheim set to expire in the summer of 2026, the club opted to cash in now rather than risk losing him for free later.
SC Paderborn triggered Okpala’s release clause, reported to be €550,000, to bring him to the Benteler-Arena as they intensify their push for promotion back to the Bundesliga.
Paderborn viewed the acquisition as a significant boost to their attacking options, identifying Okpala as a long-term asset capable of adding depth, dynamism, and competition to their forward line.
Though the deal has been wrapped up ahead of schedule, Okpala will officially join the club at the beginning of the winter transfer window, when the move is expected to be fully completed.
As he prepares for the next step in his career, Okpala will look to maintain his rich vein of form with Waldhof Mannheim, while Paderborn will hope his arrival will add depth and improve the club’s forward position.
