Sevilla's Romero speaks on relationship with Adams, Super Eagles striker's potential Afcon call-up
Sevilla forward Isaac Romero has spoken about his relationship with Super Eagles striker Akor Adams while acknowledging the possibility of losing his teammate to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Adams is widely expected to make Nigeria's final squad for the continental showpiece following his impressive performances during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old scored on his debut to help the Super Eagles secure a 2-1 victory over Lesotho in October and has since become an important figure in the team, featuring in four matches.
Speaking ahead of Sevilla’s clash against Espanyol, Romero praised Adams’ character and work ethic, noting that their partnership has been mutually beneficial.
"He's a great person, very approachable," he was quoted as saying by Sevilla's official website.
“We help each other and compete with each other, trying to score as many goals as possible to help the team, and we work hard to make that happen.”
With Adams likely to depart for AFCON duty, Romero admitted that his absence would be felt but vowed to step up in his teammate’s absence.
“I always wish Akor the best; it would be a shame if he were gone for so long because I'd be alone, but I'll try to keep working and be there for the team and help in any way I can."
Nigeria have been drawn in Group C of the AFCON, where they will face Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The Super Eagles will aim to secure their fourth continental crown after finishing as runners-up at the last edition hosted in Ivory Coast.
