Tension is rising in the Nigerian camp as the Super Eagles have threatened to skip training and delay their flight to Marrakech, citing unpaid bonus payments at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The standoff comes at a crucial moment, with Nigeria preparing for the quarter-finals against Algeria.
According to Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, the players and coaching staff have yet to receive win bonuses for Nigeria’s four victories in the tournament so far — against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and a commanding 4‑0 win over Mozambique in the round of 16.
Okeleji reports that while the team remains focused on their Afcon campaign, they have drawn a firm line: training sessions will be skipped, and travel to Marrakech postponed unless the outstanding bonuses are settled immediately.
The Super Eagles have impressed throughout Afcon 2025, topping their group and advancing to the last eight, yet financial disagreements threaten to overshadow their on-field achievements.
Similar disputes affected the squad during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Morocco, when players briefly boycotted training before an agreement was reached.
As of now, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not issued an official comment on the matter. Any disruption at this stage could have serious implications for Nigeria’s push in the continental tournament.
With stakes high and morale delicate, all eyes remain on the NFF to resolve the dispute and ensure the Super Eagles’ Afcon ambitions stay on course.
The Super Eagles are expected to face Algeria on Saturday in a high-stakes quarter-final fixture, making a resolution of the bonus dispute crucial for Nigeria’s chances in Afcon 2025.
