Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has reflected on Fulham’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland, admitting that the Cottagers had to contend with difficult playing conditions to secure the win.
Iwobi played a decisive role in the win, scoring once and providing an assist to help Fulham FC secure maximum points and boost their position on the table.
The Nigerin international provided the corner that Raúl Jiménez headed in to give the visitors the lead.
He later capped his performance with a goal in the closing stages to seal the victory.
The former Arsenal midfielder finished off a swift counter-attack, calmly slotting the ball past Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs after latching onto a perfectly weighted through pass from Harry Wilson.
This marks the third occasion in the Premier League that the Nigerian international has both scored and provided an assist in the same game since his arrival at Fulham.
He previously achieved similar feats against Liverpool in April 2025 and Brentford in September 2025.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Iwobi admitted the team had anticipated a tough encounter, especially due to the poor state of the pitch and Sunderland’s strong home form.
"We knew it was going to be difficult, the pitch wasn't great. We know if we wanted to climb up the table we had to get these points away from home," Iwobi said.
"They have been very good at home and it's good to get the result we wanted."
The result was particularly significant for Fulham, who now moved into top ten and are pushing for a place in any of the European competitions.
When asked whether European qualification is now a realistic target, Iwobi insisted the team remains focused on a gradual approach.
"We take it step by step. Onto the next game, we got the three points which was the aim, to climb above them. We take it game by game - that cliche saying and see where we end up at the end of the season," he added.
With this performance, the Nigerian international has boosted his season tally to three goals and three assists in 21 Premier League appearances.
