'They move very well' - Tanzania coach reveals plans to neutralise Osimhen, Chukwueze, Lookman

Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi says his team has devised a detailed tactical approach to neutralize Nigeria’s attacking trio of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ademola Lookman ahead of Tuesday’s AFCON clash in Fes, Morocco.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Gamondi revealed that the Taifa Stars have conducted extensive video analysis and scouting to understand the strengths of Nigeria’s frontline.

"We did our job to video analysis, to scouting, to watching the game but everybody knows Osimhen which quality he has," he told reporters.

Gamondi warned that Nigeria’s attackers “move very well with the ball” and excel in third-man runs, noting that his players must maintain discipline and avoid mistakes both on and off the ball.

"For sure, we have tactical plans to neutralize the individual and the quality important to him. It is not only him, you have players like Chukwueze, and Lookman.

"They move very well with the ball and use a lot of the third man and we need to be very aware of how we position on the pitch."

He described Osimhen as a “top-quality player” but stressed that Tanzania will rely on zonal, not individual, marking to contain the Super Eagles’ threats.

“But, I am not the type of coach that thinks in the individual marking, for me it is important to mark in zonal but the quality of the players define the situation in the game,” he said.

He added that while Osimhen is the focal point of Nigeria’s attack, Tanzania must also be alert to the dangers posed by players arriving from the second line.

"And as I have said before, we don't have the right to make mistakes and mistakes are marked with and without the ball and Osimhen is the reference in the attack of Nigeria but we need to take off him but more people who come in the second line as well.

"And this is the job we need to do and shape we need to keep permanently," he concluded.

The Super Eagles, who are chasing a fourth continental title, hope to make a statement with a win after the disappointment of missing out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A positive result against the Taifa Stars will not only boost confidence but also enhance their chances to advance from the group and mount a strong title challenge.
