'To be honest' - Algeria captain Mahrez admits Super Eagles were the better team

Algerian captain Riyad Mahrez has shared his opinion on the defeat to Nigeria, admitting that the Super Eagles were the better side on Saturday.

The Super Eagles secured a 2-0 victory at the Marrakesh Stadium to progress to the final four of the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen opened the scoring with a header at the start of the second half before Akor Adams netted the second ten minutes later.

Nigeria will face the host country in the semifinal and battle for a place in the final, where they will face the winners between Egypt and Senegal.

Speaking to journalists, the former Manchester City winger noted that the Super Eagles were superior and deserved the victory.

"It was unfortunate that they were better than us," he said. "They deserve to win, to be honest.'

Although the Desert Foxes have enjoyed recent successes against Nigeria, Mahrez urged his teammates to accept the result.

"The last three games before we beat them, today they are better, we have to shake their hands and be honest," he noted.

The Super Eagles will be looking to secure a positive result against Morocco to keep their hopes of winning the tournament alive.
