Braga won the battle 1-0 ahead of the second leg at the Ibrox Stadium in the second leg next week.
While Balogun and Bassey started from kickoff, Aribo had to make his way into the game from the substitutes bench in the 62nd minute in place of Ryan Jack.
After 26 minutes, Sporting Braga thought they had taken the lead through André Horta who fired the ball into the Rangers net, but the goal was cancelled after a VAR review.
The Light Blues played with heart and looked keen to repeat their win in this fixture from two seasons ago but it was Braga who went ahead in the 40th minute after their persistence in breaking down a stout Rangers paid off with the goal scored by Abel Ruiz.
Balogun was subbed off in the second half but Bassey who started at left back but played the latter part of the game in central defence, impressively bringing the ball out of the team's half was in action throughout the duration of the game.
