The Super Eagles maintained their impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as they completed their Group C campaign with a 3–1 victory over Uganda, securing a third consecutive win and finishing the group with maximum points.
The result followed earlier victories against Tanzania and Tunisia.
Head coach Eric Chelle made several changes to his starting lineup for the final group match. Victor Osimhen led the attack, continuing his role as the focal point of Nigeria’s forward line.
Moses Simon reached a significant milestone by earning his 91st international cap, while Ryan Alebiosu was handed his senior debut, marking an important moment in his international career.
Nigeria opened the scoring in the first half after applying sustained pressure.
Paul Onuachu put the Super Eagles ahead in the 28th minute with a well-taken finish inside the penalty area, giving Nigeria a deserved lead.
Uganda created chances of their own, particularly through Rogers Mato, but were unable to find the equaliser before the break.
The second half proved decisive. Uganda were reduced to ten men following a red card, a turning point that shifted the balance firmly in Nigeria’s favour.
Raphael Onyedika doubled the lead shortly after, converting from close range after a composed attacking move in the 63rd minute.
Just four minutes later, Onyedika struck again, taking a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper and drilling the ball into the bottom right corner, cementing Nigeria’s 3-0 advantage.
Uganda pulled one goal back through Rogers Mato, who finished calmly after being set up inside the box, but the goal only served as a consolation.
Nigeria continued to control possession and managed the closing stages effectively to see out the contest.
The 3–1 victory confirmed Nigeria’s place at the top of Group C with a perfect record, concluding the group stage on a strong note as the Super Eagles progress to the knockout phase with momentum.
