Nigeria centre-back Semi Ajayi has expressed confidence and excitement ahead of the Super Eagles’ Round of 16 encounter against Mozambique at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following an impressive group-stage campaign.
The Super Eagles progressed comfortably from the group stage, finishing top of the group with nine points from three games.
Speaking ahead of the knockout clash, Ajayi praised the team’s strong start to the tournament and emphasized the positive atmosphere within the squad.
“It's been good. A really good start for the group stages and now we're looking forward to the knockout round,” Ajayi said to Ademola Victor TV.
Ajayi highlighted the depth within the Nigerian squad, noting that several players were given opportunities during the victory against Uganda and rose to the occasion.
“Yeah it's really good. It shows the strength and depth that we have,” he explained.
“We were able to give some debuts to some new players and also some players who haven't had minutes yet in this tournament and everyone did really well. It's really good for the team.”
The defender, who plays his club football in England, also spoke about his personal readiness for the crucial fixture against Mozambique, making it clear he is fully prepared for the challenge ahead.
“I feel great. I am really raring to go. I am looking forward to it,” Ajayi added.
Nigeria will face Mozambique with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, as the Super Eagles aim to maintain their momentum and push closer to a continental title.
