'We respect Galatasaray' - Onuachu humble despite Trabzonspor's statement win over reigning champions

Paul Onuachu remained humble despite Trabzonspor's 2-1 statement win over reigning Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray on Saturday evening at Papara Park.

The FC Ebedei graduate opened the scoring against The Lion in the fourth minute, expertly bending low to head in a delivery from Wagner Pina, taking his league tally to 22 goals in 25 appearances.

After Wilfried Singo equalised in the 48th minute, newly-capped Nigeria international Chibuike Nwaiwu stepped up with the match-winner, heading home a cross from Anthony Nwakaeme, who made a rare start for Trabzonspor.

Reflecting on the performance, Onuachu told beIN SPORTS: "We really fought hard in front of these fans, we gave everything to win. We respect Galatasaray, they have very good players. We got the reward for our hard work. We gave everything to win and we won."

Speaking on Trabzonspor's upcoming fixtures, the Nigeria international noted that the Super Lig is unpredictable.

"We have tough matches ahead of us. Every match is different, we will take it one match at a time, we will go out to win them all."

Onuachu also looked ahead to Galatasaray's next league game against Göztepe on Wednesday, warning that every opponent in the Süper Lig can be dangerous.

"Göztepe is a strong team, they can get points from Galatasaray. We will win and look ahead. We will all see what happens."

Onuachu is widening the gap at the top of the Süper Lig Golden Boot race, six goals clear of Başakşehir’s Uzbek striker Eldor Shomurodov.
