'We were the best team this Afcon' - Eric Chelle addresses his future with Super Eagles

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has spoken on his future with the national team following Nigeria's defeat to host Morocco in the semifinals of the AFCON tournament in Rabat on Wednesday night.

Nigeria were eliminated after losing 4-2 on penalties, with the match ending goalless after regulation time and extra time. The loss means the Super Eagles will now face Egypt in the third-place playoff on Saturday.

Addressing journalists during his post-match press conference, Chelle admitted uncertainty over his future with the Super Eagles beyond the tournament.

"Now, I don't know my future," Chelle said. "I know I am the coach of Nigeria, maybe in two days, my president will tell me, it is finished, or maybe you have to continue, I don't know."

Despite the setback, Chelle praised his players and insisted Nigeria were the standout side at the tournament. He urged the team to channel their disappointment into a strong response against Egypt.

"I will try to analyze this game in this AFCON. We have a last game against Egypt and I am proud of my players but I am disappointed for them, because, the reality is, we were maybe the best team in this AFCON. So we have to go out and respond," he added.

Chelle also called for focus ahead of the third-place encounter, insisting that discussions about his future should be put on hold.

"Now, this is not the question of my situation. The AFCON is not finished, we have to focus on the last game and we have to win this game," he said.

Nigeria still have the opportunity to secure the bronze medal with a victory over Egypt, and Chelle will be hoping for a positive result to end the tournament on a high note after missing out on a place in the final.
