West Ham LB of Nigerian descent chooses Utrecht after snubbing Juventus, Borussia Dortmund

FC Utrecht have reached an agreement to sign highly rated left-back of Nigerian descent. Emeka Adiele from West Ham United on a four-year contract, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.

Adiele had attracted interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, with Borussia Dortmund and Juventus both monitoring his situation closely.

However, the young defender ultimately opted for a move to the Eredivisie, prioritising a clear pathway to regular first-team football over the prestige of joining a traditional heavyweight.

This season, Adiele has directly participated in fifteen goals (5 goals, 10 assists) in twenty matches across the Premier League 2, National League Cup, Premier League International Cup and EFL Trophy.

Versatile and dynamic, Emeka Adiele excels both as a left-back and left wing-back, demonstrating his ability to contribute in defence and attack.

After making significant contributions with goals and assists for the U16s in 2022-2023, he signed a scholarship ahead of the 2023-2024 season, followed by his first professional contract on his seventeenth birthday ahead of the 2024-2025 campaign.

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers and former Nigeria international Azubuike Oliseh have both previously represented FC Utrecht.
