The young midfielder, who joined Marseille on loan from Arsenal, described the moment as a dream start and hailed his teammates for a strong all-round performance.
Nwaneri doubled the advantage for the home side, slotting into the bottom corner after receiving the ball from Pierre-Emile Højbjerg in the 13th minute.
Speaking after the game, the teenagers expressed satisfaction with their performance and the opportunity to start the match.
"I'm very happy for the team, we played a good match, I'm very happy to have started like that," Nwaneri said during his post-match interview, according to Coeur Marseillais.
Reflecting on the quality within the squad, Nwaneri believes the team has the potential to achieve something memorable.
"I'm excited, there are a lot of high-quality players, we can create something special," he added.
The youngster also explained the thinking behind his goal and thanked the fans for the support.
"My goal? I saw the space, I took advantage of it, I accelerated and I felt there was an opportunity to score. I'm very happy for myself and the fans," Nwaneri said.
Nwaneri, who remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite featuring regularly across England's youth teams, will be eager to build on his impressive displays as he continues his career development.
