Club Brugge star Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld has stopped short of blaming the Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr over his decision to commit his international future to the Netherlands ahead of the Super Eagles.
Born in Lagos, Groeneveld revealed that he was never invited to the Nigerian National Team before he became cap-tied to the Europeans, adding that he loves his African roots.
''African culture is something I’m very comfortable with because it makes you feel rich within you,'' Danjuma told Dutch football magazine Elf Voetbal via Sporting Life.
''Not representing Nigeria doesn’t mean I don’t love my root. I love being Nigeria, I love being Africa, I always look out for Nigeria international matches but you know that’s how it is.
''I was checked upon or called upon internationally, that would have been awesome and emotional representing the Super Eagles.
''If I had not chosen to play for Oranje then I wouldn’t be here. From the first moment I joined up with the squad it is clear to me who I want to play for.''
The 21-year-old left winger has earned two caps for Netherlands' senior team since his debut against Germany but has been left out of the November roster due to an ankle injury.
