Former Gunners striker names the player Balogun will replace in Arsenal first team

Former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell has predicted that Anglo-American-Nigerian youngster Folarin Balogun will replace Eddie Nketiah in the first team if the England U21 international is sold before the transfer window closes.

Two months ago, Balogun ended speculation about his future by signing a deal until June 2025,  the talented attacker is expected to be observed at close quarters by manager Mikel Arteta during pre-season with a view to the Spaniard promoting him to the first team.

With one year to run on his contract, Arsenal are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Nketiah if he refuses to sign a new deal with the club.

Balogun will look back to last season with pride, having made his debuts in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, and scoring two goals for the first team despite his limited game time.

"I cannot see a long-term future for him (Nketiah) at Arsenal. Now that Folarin Balogun has signed a new deal it is going to be difficult to get game time as a striker at Arsenal," Campbell said to Football Insider.

"He played a few games last season but he was never really a regular and I think Balogun will be the one that has that role in the first team next year."

The 19-year-old Balogun has proved that his level is higher than Arsenal youth teams, ending the 2020-2021 campaign with double digits in goals for the fourth consecutive season.
