Kelechi Iheanacho Reveals Dad Vetoed Move To Porto
Published: October 30, 2015
New Super Eagles invitee Kelechi Iheanacho would have been a Porto player, the attacker has revealed.
The Portuguese powerhouse had set the wheels in motion to sign Iheanacho from Taye Academy after the 2013 Fifa Under 17s but Manchester City finally won the race for his services with the backing of his father and agent, Henry Galeano.
“I was close to signing for FC Porto, where I really wanted to go,” Iheanacho said to express.co.uk.
“But my agent said City was a much better prospect and my father told me I should join City because I would have a much better future here. So that’s what I did.
“Nobody knows what will happen but because City are such a big team with so many fantastic players I didn’t believe I’d have a future here.”
The likes of Stoke City, Udinese, Hamburg, Sporting Lisbon and Monaco courted Iheanacho prior to his move to The Etihad.
