Rohr Explains Why Iheanacho Was Invited : We Cannot Forget What He Did For Us
Published: September 01, 2017
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has explained why he invited Kelechi Iheanacho for the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon despite his limited playing opportunities at Leicester City.
The German reminded everyone that Iheanacho has delivered for the national team in the past, having found the net in five matches since his appointment as coach.
''Kelechi came in when the score was already 3-0, it's not the same game. He had to fight for the team, he came in and he scored,'' Rohr said at the post-match press conference attended by allnigeriasoccer.com.
''We know that he doesn't play so much in his new team but has started to play and we cannot forget what he did for us (in the past), he did well today.
''He needs more games but I'm happy for him that he scored the fourth goal.''
Iheanacho replaced former Watford star Odion Ighalo in the 61st minute before scoring Nigeria's fourth goal 16 minutes later.
