Iheanacho On Target As Ten-Man Arsenal Lose At Leicester City
Published: May 09, 2018
10-man Arsenal were well beaten at the King Power stadium on Wednesday evening, with Kelechi Iheanacho running the show with a virtuoso display and a goal to cap off the victory for Leicester City.
The Super Eagles striker was handed his 20th league outing for the Foxes from the off while his compatriot, Alex Iwobi made his 21st start in the Premier League for Arsenal.
It was only 14 minutes on the clock when Iheanacho blasted home the opener for City, taking advantage of a headed knock down from teammate, Fousseni Diabate to rattle his effort past Peter Cech.
The 21-year old who looked irrepressible forced another decent save from the experienced shot-stopper three minutes before the break after Iwobi's cutback to set up Henrikh Mkhitaryan was kept out by Eldin Jakupovic.
Pierre Aubameyang pulled Arsenal level after the break though, rifling in from a rebound.
But after the visitors had put up a lot of resistance for much of the game, Demarai Gray was upended in the area by Mkhitaryan, paving way for England striker, Jamie Vardy to plunder his sixth goal in seven games against the Gunners before Riyad Mahrez added the icing on the cake with another stoppage time goal to make it 3-1.
Iwobi was replaced by Eddie Nketiah six minutes from time while Harvey Barnes came on for Iheanacho after 88 minutes.
