Nigerian Super Kid Stars For Chelsea U23s Three Days After Training With First Team
Published: March 01, 2019Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League 2 game at the Lamex Stadium on Friday evening, with Tariq Uwakwe starring for the visitors.
The talented Nigerian midfielder, who trained with the Blues first team on Tuesday ahead of the Premier League meeting with Tottenham, noticeably cemented his position in the U23 team as he has started each of their last three games.
After Blues defender Richard Nartey had turned into his own goal to put Spurs ahead, Tanganga hauled down Daishawn Redan in the area, paving way for Billy Gilmour to rattle home from the spot to restore parity just before halftime.
Uwakwe was unlucky not to get on the score sheet in the closing stages when his speculative shot from range came off the upright, falling to his teammate Martell Taylor-Crossdale who could not make hay.
The youngster noticeably showed good link up play with his team's attackers, nicely picking out Luke McCormick and Taylor-Crossdale on a number of occasions.
He was replaced by Joseph Colley in the 89th minute after his impressive shift and will now look to continue convincing his handlers of his readiness for a senior role at the club.
