Flying Eagles-eligible player reveals Man Utd beat Man City to his signature
Published: March 12, 2023Flying Eagles-eligible player Maximilian Oyedele could have been playing his football for Manchester City rather than Manchester United, with the midfielder revealing that he was at the Citizens before ultimately becoming a Red Devil.
Oyedele cut his footballing teeth at Beechfield, and moved to Burnley, before he was snapped up by Manchester United at the age of seven.
The Anglo-Polish-Nigerian starlet rose through the ranks before signing a scholarship deal at United in the summer of 2021, and inked his first professional contract the following year.
When asked if he could have been a Manchester City player, Oyedele told Super Express Sport : "At a few years old, I tried my hand at various clubs. Manchester City was also among them, but it was a very short adventure".
In the January transfer window, Oyedele was loaned out to National League club Altrincham, where he will experience the rigours of first-team football.
Oyedele will continue to train with Manchester United's U18 and U21 teams while benefiting from the experience and challenges of non-league football intermittently throughout the remainder of the season.
On his loan move to Altrincham, he said : "I was very excited about this fact. I'm still very early in my career. It's an opportunity to get as many minutes as possible in adult football and to show people that I can play - that's mine for this loan period.
"I think that playing regularly at this level will give me more benefits than playing with my peers in youth competitions.
"I intend to work hard every day at Altrincham and make the most of this period."
.
A defensive-minded midfielder, Oyedele has scored two goals in six league appearances for Altrincham since his loan move, and helped the Robins qualify for the semifinals of the FA Trophy on Saturday, playing for 85 minutes in a 2-1 win over York City.
