Super Eagles striker makes cameo for Southampton in goalless draw v Man Utd

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu was handed a cameo appearance on Sunday as Premier League bottom side, Southampton held third - placed Manchester United to a goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Onuachu had started in three of the four matches he has played for the Saints since his January arrival from Belgian Pro League side, Genk.

Theo Walcott evaded his marker and planted a firm header towards the middle of the goal from a cross. David de Gea was out of position but stretched to make a fine save.

The Red Devils suffered a huge blow in the first half of Sunday's Premier League clash against Southampton.

They lost  Brazil midfielder Casemiro to a red card for a studs-up tackle on Charly Alcaraz.

The distraught, former Real Madrid star was initially booked for the tackle but the yellow card was upgraded to a red after a VAR review, meaning he will miss four league games, seven in total this season - so far after three absences earlier in the year.

Southampton's Armel Bella-Kotchap appeared to handle the ball in the box when Marcus Rashford crossed the ball, but the referee wasn't in the best position. There was no penalty for the Red Devils.

James Ward-Prowse's sublime free kick saw the ball loop on top of the post and unable to equal David Beckham's record of 18 Premier League freekicks on that occasion.

Theo Walcoot saw his shot tipped over for corner by David De Gea while Bruno Fernandez was close to opening the account for United when his shot bounced off the foot of the post with Southampton goalkeeper of Nigerian descent, Gavin Bazunu having a finger on the ball.

With 15 minutes left on the clock, United thought they had gained a penalty  when Rashford fell over from a challenge but there was no VAR call.

Onuachu then replaced Walcott in the 85th minute but had little time to effect any changes to the scoreline.
