Chelsea confirm Super Eagles-eligible player picked up a knock in training
Published: April 14, 2023Through their official website, Chelsea have revealed that it is uncertain whether Super Eagles-eligible player Carney Chukwuemeka will be named in the matchday squad against Brighton & Hove on Saturday afternoon.
The England U20 international has not been involved in the last three matches played by Chelsea, against Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the Champions League clash at Real Madrid earlier this week.
Chelsea have confirmed that Chukwuemeka picked up a knock in training before the visit of The Reds.
He has not figured for the Blues since his return from international duty with the Young Lions at the end of last month.
Senegal central defender Kalidou Koulibaly is out of contention to face the Seagulls due to injury and N'Golo Kante's fitness is being monitored having returned from a long term injury.
Manager Frank Lampard hinted at the pre-match press conference that some players that were not given game time against Real Madrid and Wolverhampton Wanderers could come into the side to face Brighton & Hove as he needs fresh energy.
If Chukwuemeka receives the medical green light, he could be offered an opportunity to impress Lampard.
Since transferring from Aston Villa last August, the 19-year-old has played eleven games for Chelsea, but only one from the start.
