'Nice finish' - 2023 PL Hall of Fame nominee hails Iwobi after scoring to atone for his error

2023 Premier League Hall of Fame nominee Michael Owen has weighed in on the goal scored by Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi on Monday night in Everton's 2-2 draw against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

After making an error in the build-up to Jamie Vardy's goal in the 33rd minute, Iwobi atoned for his mistake when he scored an important goal in the second half.

The 54th minute strike which was Iwobi's second Premier League goal of the season ensured the game finished in a draw as the Merseyside team battle to escape relegation.

Owen on analysis duty for the Premier League Productions praised the quality of the strike by the former Arsenal forward.

"It was a nice finish, really nice finish. I'm not sure whether it would have been simple if the defender wasn't there," Owen whose beloved Liverpool are city rivals with Everton noted.

Speaking on the thought process behind the effort by the Nigerian, Owen explained:

"Was he concentrating on the finish or was he just trying to strike through the ball but it ended up being a good finish.

"And as you say: 'when you make a mistake in a game, you try to rectify it and he (Iwobi) certainly did that," Owen opined.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was in action for Leicester but was subbed off in the 61st minute for Zambia international, Patson Daka while injured Kelechi Iheanacho watched from the stands and was seen celebrating Vardy's goal.
