Ex-Aston Villa striker who snubbed Eguavoen urges Man Utd not to pay 'silly money' for Osimhen

Former Aston Villa attacker Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Manchester United not to pay over the odds to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.

The Nigeria international has been linked with a departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium ahead of next season with Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG all credited with an interest.

Napoli have not yet determined a price tag for Osimhen but a fee of between €100m and €150m is being bandied about as his possible asking price.

Agbonlahor stressed that Osimhen's potential transfer to Manchester United is risky as he has managed to break the 20-goal barrier in the league just once, having failed to do so at Wolfsburg, Sporting Charleroi, Lille and his first two seasons at Napoli.

"I do like him, but he’s only done it for one season. It’s dangerous when you’re going and buying players who have only been outstanding for a short amount of time," Agbonlahor told Football Insider

"I can tell you that the Premier League is a much tougher league than Serie A, and Man United will be wary of paying silly money for him.

"Napoli are going to want over £100million for him. It’s difficult because so many sides in England need strikers but to get the best ones, it’s going to really dent the finances, it’s an unbelievable sum."

Born in Birmingham, Agbonlahor, who is now retired and is a pundit, qualified to play for three countries namely England, Scotland and Nigeria but opted to play international football for his country of birth.

Former Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen visited Villa Park in his first stint as Super Eagles boss to sound the striker out on the possibility of representing Nigeria but the player was not interested in seeing him.

Agbonlahor became cap-tied to England when he started for the Three Lions in a World Cup qualifying match against Belarus in October 2009 - the last of his three international caps for England.
