Burna Boy tells Kate Abdo why he's a Man Utd fan despite idolising Arsenal icon Thierry Henry
Published: June 11, 2023Manchester City reached the pinnacle of European football on Saturday night after beating Inter Milan 1-0 in a hard-fought UEFA Champions League final staged at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadı in İstanbul.
It wasn't Norwegian goal machine Erling Haaland that got the goal that mattered, but his teammate Rodri who fired home a composed finish past African goalkeeper André Onana, with cap-tied Switzerland international of Nigerian descent Manuel Akanji involved in the build-up to the goal.
Multi-platinum selling Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Burna Boy kept Manchester City and Inter Milan fans at the stadium entertained in the build-up to the showpiece.
A Manchester United fan, Burna Boy was a goalkeeper back in the day and has admitted that he didn't make the grade, before going full-time into music.
After his post-match entertainment show, Burna Boy was a guest of the CBS Sports Golazo crew comprising Kate Abdo, Peter Schmeichel, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry.
The Nigerian musician confessed that he didn't want Manchester City to win the Champions League for sentimental reasons.
Kate Abdo asked Burna Boy to explain why he grew up a Manchester United fan and at the same time idolizes Thierry Henry who used to play for the Red Devils' rivals Arsenal.
Burna Boy replied: "At the end of the day, it's like there are people that changed the course of the game, in a sense where it's like you can't go and there's no picture of them in the barbershop. It's stuff like that that makes it so powerful.
"Standing next to him right now I bet you there's a bunch of people that have grown up including a lot of my band members and people standing right there watching these legends right here.
"Barbershop I'm talking about two people here. I can't say because I don't like to cause problems in the world. I like to bring peace and my opinions can cause problems."
