Confirmed: Nine players of Nigerian descent retained by Chelsea, three released
Published: June 16, 2023Chelsea have submitted to the Premier League the list of players they will be releasing from their squads as well as those retained for the 2023-2024 season.
As reported by allnigeriasoccer.com twelve days ago, three players of Nigerian descent will be bidding farewell to Chelsea upon the expiry of their contracts on June 30, 2023.
Chelsea have confirmed that fullback Derrick Abu, goalkeeper Prince Adegoke and striker Bryan Fiabema have been released.
Abu joined Chelsea at U11 level, Adegoke is leaving seven years after joining the club on schoolboy terms and Norway youth teamer Fiabema has ended a three-year association with the Blues.
As for the retained least, nine players eligible to represent the Nigeria national team will remain on the books of Chelsea for the forthcoming Chelsea, provided that they are not sold.
First team players Carney Chukwuemeka, Noni Madueke and Faustino Anjorin have been retained.
Anjorin, Chukwuemeka and Madueke are under contract at Chelsea until 2025, 2028 and 2030 respectively.
The England youth internationals have totaled thirty two appearances between them for the first team of Chelsea.
At academy level, the six Anglo-Nigerian players retained are Chinonso Chibueze, Somto Boniface, Louis Flower, Richard Olise, Tudor Mendel-Idowu and Tyrique George.
