'Osimhen would be good' - Agbonlahor warns Jackson and Nkunku will not get Chelsea into UCL

Retired England international of Nigerian descent Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Chelsea to bolster their attack with the signing of Victor Osimhen despite the capture of attack-minded duo Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku from Villarreal and RB Leipzig respectively in the summer transfer window.

The Aston Villa legend stressed that Chelsea will not get into the Champions League positions next season if they don't sign a marquee center forward in the mould of Osimhen.

Chelsea had a below-par season in 2022-2023, finishing 12th in the Premier League table and accumulated 38 goals in the division over the course of the campaign.

To address their shortcomings in attack, the Blues have been linked with one of the best strikers in the top five European Leagues in Victor Osimhen but his valuation could be a stumbling block to a deal, with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis valuing him at 200 million euros.

Although Agbonlahor admitted that Osimhen's valuation is excessive, he believes that the Nigerian would improve the Chelsea squad.

"They still need a proper striker. I liked Romelu Lukaku when he was playing at Everton. It is what a lot of teams need right out in the league as well," Agbonlahor said to Football Insider

"Victor Osimhen would be good, but I think they are talking around £170m for him, which is too much.

"But I do feel that Chelsea need more as every team is improving.

"Villa will be there next season, so will Brighton so it will be harder for Chelsea to break into the top four, and that’s the minimum for Chelsea with the amount of money they spent."

Osimhen has mustered 97 goals combined for Sporting Charleroi, Lille and Napoli in 175 appearances, and has registered 17 goals for the Super Eagles in 26 games.
