Tottenham reveal shirt number for Super Eagles-eligible player ahead of full PL debut
Published: August 13, 2023Italy U21 international of Nigerian descent, Destiny Udogie will make his full Premier League debut against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Super Eagles-eligible left-back has been picked in the starting lineup by Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou.
For the 2023-2024 season, Tottenham have revealed that Udogie will play with the number 38 on the back of his jersey.
He was assigned a provisional squad number of 73 for the pre-season friendlies against West Ham United, Lion City Sailors and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Udogie is the second player with a Nigerian background to wear Tottenham's number 38 shirt since the start of the third millennium, following in the footsteps of academy product Jonathan Obika.
The Italian-Nigerian defender inherits the number from Yves Bissouma, who was allocated the number last season and has switched to number 8 for the 2023-2024 campaign.
Previous holders of the number 38 jersey include Cameron Carter-Vickers, Ryan Mason, David Bentley, Troy Archibald-Henville and Charlie Lee.
Udogie wore the number 13 at Udinese and Hellas Verona, and for Italy at the 2023 European U21 Championship.
