Nephew of ex-Super Eagles defender makes PL debut for Chelsea in 1-1 draw v Liverpool
Published: August 13, 2023Lesley Ugochukwu, who is the nephew of former Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam, made his Premier League debut off the bench as Chelsea forced Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
Luis Diaz gave Liverpool the lead in the 18th minute when Mohamed Salah's pass found him at the near post.
Axel Disasi drew level for Chelsea in the 37th minute through a headed pass from Ben Chilwell.
It was Ugochuwku that would replace Chilwell just before the end of regulation time, in the 90th minute.
Despite spending few minutes on the pitch, he was still able to manage one clearance, one blocked shot and completed all 3 passes.
Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka started the game for Chelsea and lasted for 80 minutes.
The England U20 international won two of his ground duels, had 50 touches and made no key pass. .
Despite concerns regarding his fitness, English forward of Nigeria descent Noni Madueke also made the matchday squad but was an unused substitute.
Mauricio Pochettino's men will next face London neighbours West Ham United at the London Stadium in their next Premier League fixture.
