'It was a fabulous debut' - Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen sings the praises of Udogie
Published: August 14, 2023Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen sang the praises of Italian-born defender of Nigeria descent Destiny Udogie for his brilliant performance in Spurs' 2-2 draw with Brentford on Sunday.
Udogie was handed his Premier League and competitive debut by Ange Postecoglou in the encounter and was deployed as a left-back.
He lasted 90 minutes on the pitch and made a good impression in his first game in the Premier League.
The Super Eagles-eligible left-back ended the game with 5 ground duels won, 3 interceptions, 3 tackles, completed 94% of his passes and was fouled twice.
He had a chance to set up Spurs winner in the 91st minute but his pass got blocked.
Allen was satisfied with the performance of the young left-back and appreciated his offensive role.
"I thought Udogie was magnificent in the role that he played. He's got into that midfield area and created an overload," Allen said to Tottenham's official webpage.
"He played on the inside with Son when he was wide. I thought it was a fabulous debut for me."
Udogie joined the London-based club last summer but was loaned out to Udinese to get more minutes and experience under his belt.
The 2002-born defender posted three goals and four assists in 38 Serie A games for the Italian outfit in 2022-2023.
He could make his Premier League home debut when Tottenham host Manchester United on Saturday, August 19.
