Dutch winger reveals Akpom improved his game by watching videos of Tottenham, Man Utd, AC Milan legends
Published: August 15, 2023Dutch winger Diego Biseswar has revealed how Chuba Akpom improved his game by watching Tottenham Hotspur icon Teddy Sheringham, Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelroy and AC Milan hero Andriy Shevchenko.
Diseswar was a teammate of the Ajax-bound striker for two years during his first spell with Greek side PAOK Saloniki.
After several loan spells, Akpom joined PAOK on a three-year deal for 900,000 pounds from Arsenal in 2018 but left for Middlesbrough in 2020 and returned to the Greek outfit a year later on a loan deal.
The 27-year-old made 131 appearances for the club and posted 29 goals and thirteen assists.
Biseswar, in a recent interview, disclosed how Akpom was committed to becoming a better striker by watching videos of the earlier listed iconic strikers.
"Then we spent hours in our room watching YouTube videos of Teddy Sheringham, Andriy Shevchenko and Ruud van Nistelrooy. He then looked very closely at their way of finishing and at their running lines in the field.
"He was that kind of guy. He really wanted to get better," he told De Telegraaf via voetbalprimeur.
Akpom is close to joining Ajax after the Dutch club agreed a 12 million euros plus 2 million in bonuses with Middlesbrough for his signature and is set to pen a multi-year contract with the club.
The Anglo-Nigerian forward is expected to be unveiled soon by the Eredivisie giants.
