Romano sees Chukwuemeka staying at Chelsea despite arrival of Caicedo, imminent signing of Lavia

Fabrizio Romano has predicted that England youth teamer of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka will be staying put at Chelsea despite the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove and imminent arrival of Romeo Lavia.

The Ecuador international completed a transfer to Chelsea on Monday, signing an eight-year contract with a club option for another year.

Chelsea are also in advanced talks to sign Southampton wonderkid Lavia after seeing off competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The potential signings of the two players for a combined fee of 170 million pounds could see Chukwuemeka pushed down the pecking order of midfielders at Chelsea.

However, Mauricio Pochettino seems to trust the Anglo-Nigerian youngster, having started him in pre-season games against Wrexham, Brighton & Hove, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund, plus the Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday.

Romano informed that the Argentine football tactician is impressed with the performances of Chukwuemeka and he's unlikely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Writing in his column for Caughtoffside, the Italian transfer market expert stated: "Despite two new arrivals in midfield, I see Carney Chukwuemeka staying at the club as Mauricio Pochettino is very happy with him.

"For Conor Gallagher, a move could be possible but it depends on the proposals they get."

Chukwuemeka also faces competition from a midfielder of Nigerian descent, Lesley Ugochukwu for a spot in Chelsea's starting lineup.

Ugochukwu, who made his Premier League debut against Liverpool, has been linked with a loan move to Strasbourg.
